Mycelarium Speedrun: The 20-Minute Route
The fast Mycelarium route players report: lean upgrades, free rain growth, an early aquifer push and a direct line to the migration.
Mycelarium has no timer and no leaderboard, but players still race it. The fastest reported run finishes in about twenty minutes by ignoring most of the mushroom roster and pushing straight for the aquifer. This page breaks that route into phases and explains why each shortcut works, without pretending the run is consistent.
The route is a player report, not an official category. Map layout, animal spawns and water placement can all add minutes. Treat twenty minutes as a good run, not a guarantee.

What is the core idea?
The ending needs a colony that can migrate, not a colony that has built everything. The speed route therefore spends points only on the upgrades that increase reach and reduce cost:
- Shot Range
- Shot Width
- Water Efficiency
- Soil Penetration
- The cheap food upgrades that keep the network alive
It skips the mushroom branches, the magic shroom hunt and the surface defence network. Every point goes into distance.
Phase 1: the opening sprint (0–5 minutes)
- Grow a compact base around the starting mushroom.
- Take food pockets on the way, but do not detour.
- Buy Shot Range as soon as the first point arrives.
- Use rain windows for every long connection.
The opening is the only part where food can stop you. If the counter hits zero, grow along existing nodes toward leaf litter and wait for rain; do not build a Predator you cannot afford.
Phase 2: the water line (5–10 minutes)
Find and connect the first pool, then push toward the second. Water Efficiency is the key purchase here: it lowers the cost of every shot, including the long ones.
Do not build a Water Mushroom yet. The route uses pools and rain to reach the aquifer, where water becomes effectively unlimited. A Water Mushroom is a mid-game tool; in a speedrun it is a detour.
Phase 3: the dig (10–15 minutes)
Soil Penetration is the gate. Buy enough for the first layer, then the second, then the third. A Digger Mushroom can substitute for raw penetration if the points are cheaper, but the route usually prefers the passive upgrade because it applies to every shot.
While digging, keep the network connected. A speedrun that spores into a new layer without a bridge has to spend water twice.
Phase 4: the aquifer and the finish (15–20 minutes)
The aquifer is the deep water reserve that makes late growth cheap. Connect it, build one or two Water Mushrooms if the final sequence needs sustained water, and push the migration objective.
Community reports describe finishing with roughly 30 points per mushroom at this stage, which is a sign of how thin the build is. The route does not need a large colony; it needs a connected one.
A free growth window is worth more than any point purchase. Plan the longest connections for rain and use dry weather for short corrections.
What can go wrong?
- A dry map. If the first pool is far, the run slows down; there is no way to manufacture water early.
- A stone wall in the wrong place. Penetration costs points, and a bad maze can eat the lead.
- Animals at the worst moment. A stolen producer during the aquifer push can end the run's food supply.
- A missed food pocket. The route has no Absorber, so food is entirely map-dependent.
A failed speedrun is usually a map problem, not an execution problem. Restarting is cheap because the route is short.
Does the route collect anything?
Only what sits on the path. The five magic shrooms are optional for the ending and expensive to detour for. If Flora happens to be on the route, take it; the 25% discount is worth the stop. Otherwise skip.
The magic shrooms guide→ covers the collection route for players who want both speed and completion.
Is the ending the same in a speedrun?
The objective is the same. The difference is the state of the colony: a speedrun reaches the finale with a thin network, few mushrooms and little defence. The ending does not require a large colony, which is why the route works.
The ending guide→ explains the preparation and the known trigger.
Should a beginner speedrun?
No. The route skips the systems that teach the game: food loops, defence, mushroom production. Learn the normal run first, then race it. The beginner guide→ is the better starting point.
FAQ
What is the fastest reported time?
About twenty minutes, from a community report. No official leaderboard verifies it.
Does the speedrun need Survival Mode?
No. The ending is Exploration-only, so the route is an Exploration run.
Can you speedrun without spores?
The route can reach the finale without a Spore Mushroom, but the migration sequence is tied to spores narratively. A spore may still be required at the very end.
Is the route consistent?
No. Map layout and water placement vary, and animals can interrupt. The route is a plan, not a fixed script.
