Mycelarium Magic Shrooms: All Five Locations
Find all five Mycelarium magic shrooms: which layer each one sits in, what it does, and how to confirm the effect in your own run.
The five magic shrooms are Mycelarium's main collectible. Finding all of them completes the Magic Shrooms achievement, clears the FIVE MAGIC MUSHROOMS quest on the HUD, and changes how the colony works. They sit in stone alcoves across the three underground layers, which means the search is a digging problem before it is a combat problem.
This guide lists the confirmed locations, the effects with the evidence behind each one, and the fastest route through the layers.

Where are the five magic shrooms?
| Shroom | Colour | Layer | Location | Effect | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Water | Blue | Brown Dirt (1) | Underground, near the first pools | Sends roots out in random directions | Community |
| Cosmos | Purple | Brown Dirt (1) | Stone maze | Makes the network glow; F toggles it | Community |
| Flora | Green | Grey Dirt (2) | Stone maze | Mushroom food price −25% | In-game tooltip |
| Fauna | Green | Grey Dirt (2) | Same maze as Flora | Keeps squirrels away permanently | Community |
| Light | Yellow | Red Dirt (3) | Stone maze, deepest layer | Production and build speed +50% | Community |
Two warnings about third-party lists. First, the exact chamber layout is procedurally placed, so coordinates from another run will not transfer. Second, at least one guide swaps the Flora and Fauna colours and effects; the screenshot from the current build shows a green shroom labelled POWER OF FLORA SHROOM with Reduces food price for all mushrooms by 25%, so trust the tooltip over the list.
How do you find them?
The pattern is consistent across layers:
- Dig to the layer with enough Soil Penetration.
- Follow the stone maze rather than trying to cross it.
- Look for a small chamber with a coloured glow and a mushroom inside.
- Approach the mushroom to trigger the power banner and the tooltip.
The alcoves are not hidden behind enemies. They are hidden behind geometry: hard soil, stone walls and dead ends. A Digger Mushroom or a few points in penetration shortens the search, but the maze still has to be walked.
The layers are separated by barriers. Clearing layer one completely before descending means you never have to guess whether a missing shroom is above or below you.
What does each shroom actually do?
Water Shroom
Community reports say it grows roots from existing nodes in random directions, which helps spread without aiming. It is the least dramatic effect and the easiest to test: watch whether new growth appears without a shot.
Cosmos Shroom
The network glows purple. Press F to toggle the glow. It is cosmetic plus atmospheric, and it makes deep networks easier to read in dark areas.
Flora Shroom
The strongest confirmed effect: all mushrooms cost 25% less food. This compounds with every Predator, Water Mushroom and Repeller you build, so finding it early is a real power spike. The in-game tooltip is unambiguous.
Fauna Shroom
Community reports say it permanently keeps squirrels away. If that holds, it removes one of the two surface thieves and lets you thin out the Repeller coverage. Test it by watching a squirrel route before and after.
Light Shroom
Community reports say it increases production and build speed by 50%. The number is unverified; the direction is not. It is the deepest shroom and the one most likely to change a late run.
Do the effects stack?
Each shroom is a one-time find. There is no visible duplicate or upgrade path for them. The Flora discount applies globally, so it stacks with the food price of every mushroom rather than with itself.
If you find the same colour in two chambers, check the tooltip; the game may be reusing a model rather than spawning a duplicate collectible. The achievement tracks five distinct finds.
What order should you collect them?
The efficient order follows the layers:
- Water and Cosmos on Brown Dirt, while you are already there for pools.
- Flora and Fauna on Grey Dirt, in the same maze. Flora is the priority because the discount pays for the rest of the run.
- Light on Red Dirt, once your food and water economies can support the deepest push.
This order also matches the natural progression of penetration upgrades. You do not need to rush layer three for a shroom you cannot afford to use.
What if a shroom is missing?
Three possibilities:
- It is in a chamber you have not entered. Stone mazes have dead ends that look like walls.
- You are on the wrong layer. The colour of the dirt is the tell: brown, grey, red.
- The build changed the spawn logic. Patch 1.02 added achievements but did not list shroom changes, so a missing shroom is more likely a route problem than a bug.
The underground layers guide→ maps the three layers and their barriers. The 100 percent checklist→ combines the shrooms with the other completion goals.
FAQ
Are the magic shrooms randomized?
The chambers are part of the procedural underground, so the route differs per run. The layer and the effect are fixed.
Does the Flora Shroom stack with other discounts?
No other global food discount is confirmed. It stacks with the food cost of each mushroom, not with a second Flora.
Can I miss a magic shroom permanently?
No. The layer persists, and you can return with better penetration.
Is the Cosmos glow useful?
It is mostly atmospheric. It can help you see the network in dark areas, and F turns it off.
